Craves and Gets Nothing

[4] The soul of the sluggard craves and gets nothing, while the soul of the diligent is richly supplied.
(Proverbs 13:4)
Lord, thank you for allowing this scripture to jump out at me… and punch me squarely in my sluggard mouth.1
The sluggard is a common enough topic in Proverbs… and I have foolishly associated it only with the concepts of physical diligence and work ethic. This proverb clearly states that this sluggard struggles to provide for his soul.
The very same day I read this I found myself crying out to you for more of yourself. While I am grateful you have placed within me the desire to know you more… I was instantly convicted that I crave… and get nothing. I have not showed diligence to seek you. "The soul of the diligent is richly supplied"… while I have everything I need for life and godliness (2 Pet 1:3) I don't have because I ask wrongly (James 4:3)… and I ought to submit and draw near. (James 4:8-9)
Forgive me Lord for how long I have not given you the worship you are worth. This is my cry of humility and submission: you are Lord, and I am sorry. I want to give you the first-fruits of my day once more… please continue to challenge and encourage me. In the name of your Son, in whom I have peace with God and a surety of salvation, amen.

To be honest… in my pride I realized I tend to skip over proverbs about sluggards thinking they don't apply to me. Well, I am chastened and humbled. ↩
