A Beautiful Inheritance

The Lord is my chosen portion and my cup; you hold my lot. The lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; indeed, I have a beautiful inheritance. (‭Psalm‬ ‭16‬:‭5-6‬ ESV)

Thank you Lord for the joy I have felt over the past few weeks... Rarely have I felt so energized and full of gratefulness as I have recently. Lord, in this high water time of my life, protect me from idolatry. I don't want to come to desire this feeling of fulfillment over you. I don't want to desire the conduits of your joy, I long to long after you.

Thank you for all the fine weather, wonderful friends, and golden opportunities that you send. Thank you also for the gloomy days, strained conversations, and bleak schedules that you use to shape me into the image of Jesus. I here and now recognize and praise you for both, but I fear that as soon as my heart seizes upon the good with jealous greed or the bad with bitter discontentment I will have to repeat this prayer and surrender once more. Enable me to always turn to you, in good or bad.

You are my inheritance, my chosen portion. I am grateful, and content. Help me to rest in you, not because of your gifts, but because of the everlasting love and faithfulness of the Giver. In Jesus' name, amen.
